RAI Certification

RETA Authorized Instructor (RAI) is designed to assess the mastery of advanced refrigeration system concepts and operations at a level that qualifies a candidate to assist prospective CARO, CIRO, CRES, and CRST candidates with their preparations and activities required to earn RETA credentials. RAI candidates must demonstrate both teaching experience and knowledge of the content in all RETA publications that are designed to prepare operators and others to meet RETA certification requirements.

RAI Application

A RETA Membership is required to apply for RAI certification.

How do I apply to take an RAI exam?

  • All RETA RAI candidates must submit an online exam application. Click on the above RAI Application button to get started. Supporting documents that cannot be submitted with the online application, must be emailed in a PDF to certification@reta.com.
  • Use the below checklist to guide you through the application process.
  • Payment must be made online or by calling RETA HQ. If using a company purchase order, it must be paid.
  • The application will be reviewed by RETA certification staff and the Executive Director. If approved, it will then be sent to the Certification Committee for a final review. You must meet all requirements listed in the RAI handbook.
  • After the exam application has the final approval from the Certification Committee you will be notified by RETA Certification Staff. Your exam can then be scheduled. You have one year from the date of payment to schedule the exam. Call RETA HQ 541-497-2955 between the hours of 7:30am-4:00pm PST,  or email certification@reta.com.
  • There is no RAI Study Guide as RAI's are expected to be familiar with the CARO, CIRO, CRST and CRES Study Guides and are encouraged to help candidates learn how to use these exam resources effectively.
  • The RAI examination is based on practical experience and RETA's technical courses as outlined in the RAI Certification Handbook. The test consists of multiple-choice items and is approximately three (3) hours in length. The examination is given in English. You must answer at least 80% of the questions correctly in order to pass the examination.
