What is an Apprenticeship Program?
Apprenticeship is a collaboration among business, industry and government organizations resulting in a skilled trade. Apprentices learn the aspects of a highly skilled occupation through on-the-job training and related instruction, while under the supervision of a journey-level craft person or trade professional. At the end of the program, the apprentice receives a certificate of completion and achieves journey worker status. Apprenticeship training requires a wide and diverse range of skills and knowledge, as well as maturity, commitment and sound judgment.
What is the term of apprenticeship?
The term of the occupation is 3 years with an OJL attainment of 6,000 hours, supplemented by the minimum required 432 hours of related instruction.
How much can I earn?
Apprentices shall be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on either a percentage or a dollar amount of the current hourly journeyworker wage rate.
How do I become an apprentice?
You must meet minimum qualifications but you can get started by submitting a completed application. An apprentice is usually a full-time employee who is learning while earning, don’t delay! Hire Vets Medallion Program
The Department of Labor will launch the Hire Vets Medallion Program on January 31 to recognize employers who recruit, retain, and employ veterans.
The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017, signed by President Trump on May 5, 2017, required the Secretary of Labor to establish this award program. Employer-applicants meeting specified criteria will receive a “HIRE Vets Medallion Award.” As described in the Act, there are different awards for large employers (500-plus employees), medium employers (51-499 employees), and small employers (50 or fewer employees). Additionally, there are two award tiers: Gold and Platinum.
Employers interested in applying for the HIRE Vets Medallion Award Program may now create accounts in preparation for the program launch on January 31.
